Trucks and buses account for 6% of total EU emissions, making them a major polluter. Up to now, zero-emission alternatives have remained niche. This is starting to change as truck climate targets kick in.
A single diesel truck in Europe burns 450,000 litres of fuel during its lifetime, the same as 30 cars. While manufacturers had voluntary goals to transition to zero-emission vehicles, freight customers had no guarantee that they would be able to buy the clean vehicles that they needed.
