Vans are the EU’s fastest growing source of road transport emissions, and, with home deliveries on the rise, van sales are soaring. At the same time, emissions of new vans - on a per km average - have not decreased in three years.
EU emissions rules are so weak, most vanmakers are able to meet them without selling a single electric vehicle. While electric car sales have shot up thanks to ambitious car CO2 targets, electric van sales are set to languish between 2% and 8% by the end of the decade. T&E’s study shows that if action isn’t taken now to get more electric vans on the road, the sector will fail to decarbonise in time.
