Work car park tax

March 12, 2009

The city of Nottingham has asked the British transport ministry to approve a scheme to tax companies with more than 10 car parking spaces for employees.

Nottingham, which has a strong cycling culture, wants to charge firms with more than 10 spaces an annual fee of GBP 185 (€210) a year from 2010, rising to GBP 350 (€395) in 2014. Business leaders say the tax is ‘oppressive’. The city authorities say they want to use the income to fund an expansion of the city’s tram network.
