The business traveller has generally been left out of attempts to reduce the environmental impact of transport, but this month sees the publication of a new guide to greening business travel.
[mailchimp_signup][/mailchimp_signup]T&E’s German member VCD has published ‘Business travel – enterprising, efficient and eco-friendly’, a guide to how business travellers can get from A to B both economically and environmentally. The main publication is in German, but a shorter English version is also available on-line.
The guide offers a range of ideas for companies to develop sustainable travel plans for their employees, giving concrete suggestions and examples of good practice. It features a prominent section on telephone and video conferencing.
‘It is small and medium-sized businesses which have substantial potential for savings in business travel, but they haven’t analysed that potential,’ says Anja Hänel, VCD’s project leader. ‘These enterprises often lack the relevant information about making their travel more efficient and more environment-friendly. Our guide shows how they can do both at the same time.’
The 18-page guide is the result of a project that benefited from funding from the German environment ministry and the national environment agency (UBA).
It can be downloaded from www.vcd.org/geschaeftsreisen_leitfaden.html (scroll to the bottom of the page).
