Climate department proposed
The Commission is considering setting up a new energy and climate directorate to take over the EU Emissions Trading Scheme and international climate strategy.
The idea was suggested by an internal task force which put forward proposals for administrative restructuring of the Commission. A cross-party group of MEPs who have been active on climate legislation said they were alarmed by the idea, as an energy and climate directorate would make it harder to resist industry attempts to water down efforts to fight climate change.
